Oliver Lloyd - Photographer

About Me.

Throughout my years of study and practice, photography has always been a constant for me something I can turn to in tough times to either explore or to navigate myself via the use of the medium. I treat photography as therapy, as it allows me to channel all of my curiosities into a body of work, that I as an artist can be proud of.

But sometimes I do enjoy just having fun with it, as it is fundamental to my well-being that photography is a creative outlet. And not to be taken too seriously and that experimenting is all part of the gig.

During my Journey with photography, I have endeavoured in many different areas, from portraiture and landscape to more contemporary works, such as reflecting on my self-image and how I persevere myself to the world around me. Predominantly I tend to use a lot of black and white within my work, as for me an individual it's easier to convey certain feelings that I want to portray within some of my projects, whilst adding a more sophisticated undertone to the overall themes at the heart of my practice.

At this moment in time, I'm fixated on expanding my portrait portfolio capturing those around me who catch my eye, and encapsulating their essence within photographs, I thoroughly enjoy Portrait work as it helps me better understand people, allowing me to garner a deeper understanding of my subjects and also my own ability as an artist. This allows me the confidence to create and display my talent which I have taken pride in over my many years as a photographer. I hope to expand and grow as an artist and develop my style further within the framework of photography, as it's not just a hobby but rather a means of expression.

Recent Project(s)

'Antonia'

This recent project was my emulation of the great David Bailey, whose work I've become familiar with due to my studies at university.

I Based this project around his work and wanting to learn more about his style and technique but also who he is as a person which led him to define the swinging sixties with his fabulous imagery on Vogue.

I came across Bailey early on in my practice as a photographer in college as most of my work revolves around a black-and-white aesthetic much like some of his popular works, so to delve into his life and learn about what makes him one of the greats within the Photography industry was honestly such a pleasure.

Here are my final produced images.
